  • What is H.264?

H.264 , MPEG-4 Part 10 , or AVC , for Advanced Video Coding, is a digital video codec standard which is noted for achieving very high data compression . The intent of the H.264/AVC project was to create a standard that would be capable of providing good video quality at bit rates that are substantially lower (e.g., half or less) than what previous standards would need (e.g., relative to MPEG-2 , H.263 , or MPEG-4 Part 2 ), and to do so without so much of an increase in complexity as to make the design impractical (excessively expensive) to implement.

  • Why is a GSM/GPRS modem required?

A GSM/GPRS modem is required to for the mVision (mBox) configuration. The primary role of the modem is to send a "Wake Up" trigger to the mBox, this will instruct the mBox to dialup and connect to the internet. Once online, the mBox receives it's instructions via the IP layer. The modem's secondary role is to send SMS/MMS alerts as and when triggered.

  • What kind of mobile devices is can be used to view video streams?

In order to support the mVision Mobile Client, the mobile device has be Java enabled with MIDP 2.0. An alternative, for devices that do not support MIDP 2.0, would be to deploy a WAP gateway for a more friendly access to view video streams on the go.

Hence viewing is not limited to only mobile phones, devices such as a PDA with Internet connection can be used as well.
